This study used 10 RAPD markers, to provide insight into the genetic variability through, molecular characterization of brown lacewing and Dipha aphidivora from different geographical locations under laboratory conditions. There existed variation in the DNA profiling among all samples. The dendrogram constructed using symmetric matrix of different samples resulted into two major clusters. The similairity matrix pertaining to different isolates of Micromus igorotus and Dipha aphidivora revealed that the similarity co-efficient ranged from 0.5-0.80 and 0.57-0.80, respectively. The highest genetic similarity index (0.80) of Micromus igorotus was seen between the isolates from Bangalore and Poona followed by 0.6 between the isolates from Bangalore and both Dharwad and Bagalkot. However, the highest genetic similarity index of 0.8 was seen between the isolates Dipha aphidivora from Assam and Poona followed by 0.57 was seen between Bangalore and Dharwad and also from Bangalore and Sameerwadi (Bagalkot).Keywords

Experiments were carried out on the weather based relationship of pod borer, Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) during Rabi 2011-12 and 2012-13 at the Main Agricultural Research Station, Dharwad. The analysis comprised correlations between the pod damage with prevailing weekly meteorological parameters during 1, 2, 3 and 4 weeks lead time (prior) and same week of the observations revealed the following results. Forecasting model for per cent pod damage shown maximum temperature at 4 weeks lead time is consistently negatively and highly significant association with per cent pod damage in early sown crop. In case of normal and late sown crop, minimum temperature at 3 weeks lead time is consistently negatively and highly significant association with per cent pod damage by the prediction model.Keywords

Study conducted to indentify the spread of invasive species of armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda to other major crops thus, roving surveys were conducted from December 2018 in some parts of Belgaum revealed that incidence of fall armyworm on sugarcane crop also apart from maize and sorghum in Karnataka. Survey conducted in and around Hukkeri, talukas, where the younger crop (30-45days old) was infested by armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda. Less damage was recorded on ratoon sugarcane as well as older crop. Newly sown sugarcane crop of 30-45 days in some pockets of Hukkeri taluka having initial damage of 0-5 per cent incidence. More incidence was observed on maize + sugarcane intercropping and also where the farmers followed Rabi crops as sugarcane and maize. Incidence was also noticed in one of the sugarcane trial at Bellad Bagewadi.Keywords
